Big show coming up!

Feb.4 2012 - Merkin Hall NYC

A co-presentation with Wordless Music

Musical polymath Jherek Bischoff is joined by an all-star cast of guest vocalists from his new album, due out in February, including David Byrne, Craig Wedren (Shudder To Think), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Mirah and Zac Pennington (Parenthetical Girls). This concert features the Wordless Music Orchestra, supplemented by a number of Bischoff’s long-time collaborators, and marks the first-ever collaboration between Wordless Music and the Ecstatic Music Festival.

I have started a Kickstarter page to help raise funds for transportation for all of the out of town artists. You can donate here! Thank you so much for your support!

  1. Does nobody else realize that the first vocal piece on the WQXR feed is "Us and Them" by Pink Floyd, right down to the tango-like accompaniment pattern? The second piece starts with a note-by-note quote of the opening melody of the "Rite of Spring" by Stravinski. That is when I stopped listening.

I don't believe that Bischoff is purposely or even knowingly plagiarizing, but part of being an actual composer is knowing your field well enough to know when your original idea is actually just a memory of another composer's work.

This gives all of us a bad name, and we have to call each other on plagiarism when we hear it.

  2. I would be interested to hear Jherek's opinion on this, I did think some of his music sounded quite familiar, but maybe he knows, and in any case it's so beautiful and soothing I actually don't mind if this is purposefully or unwittingly plagiarised..
